Benjamin Kahn is a marine ecologist specialising in oceanic cetaceans (whales and dolphins) and other “deep divers”. He has lived and worked in Indonesia for close to two decades. As the Director of the Coral Triangle Oceanic Cetacean Program for APEX Environmental and co-founder of Planet Deep, Benjamin has partnered with other NGOs, governments and industry groups to help protect oceanic hotspots for large migratory marine life throughout the Coral Triangle.
He also serves as an expert member on two IUCN Commissions (the Species Survival Commission and the World Commission on Protected Areas), three IUCN Specialist Groups, and as the Technical Advisor on marine mammals and plastic debris for the Indonesia Waste Platform. Benjamin is an International Fellow at the prestigious Explorers Club, USA; an Adjunct Research Fellow in the Centre of Marine Science and Technology at Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia, and is the ‘Ambassabor for Science’ for the Asia Dive Exposition in Singapore and China (ADEX, the region’s largest dive and marine tourism event).
